TD-SCDMA Update
May 04, 2007
- Korea's LG Electronics recently demonstrated a mobile phone based on TD-HSDPA, a technology that is fully compatible with China's homegrown TD-SCDMA standard, according to Telecoms Korea. TD-HSDPA is an upgraded version of TD-SCDMA, enabling a transmission rate of 2Mbps for multimedia data transmission and voice calls, five times faster than that of TD-SCDMA. TD-HSDPA has a smaller capacity than TD-SCDMA as its frequency bandwidth is merely one third compared with its predecessor. LG plans for commercial applications in 2008 at the earliest.
